Eyvind Brynildsen’s quest for an FIA European Rally Championship podium finish has come to an end on Rally Liepāja, crashing out on stage 10.
The Norwegian driver had planned a big push during leg two’s afternoon loop, with only 9.3s seconds separating him from third placed CA1 Sport driver Fredrik Åhlin.
His push went awry only a few kilometres into the first stage after midday service, crashing out at high speed and running up a bank.
Both Brynildsen and co-driver Ilka Minor were OK after their crash but his Ford Fiesta could continue no further.
Brynildsen had been fifth before his crash, a position now occupied by eSky Rally Team’s Łukasz Habaj.
