Making his Rally di Roma Captiale debut and driving M-Sport Poland’s Ford Fiesta Rally4 for the first time, FIA ERC3 Junior newcomer William Creighton impressed before trouble struck.
While a puncture dropped him back, the Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy promise was forced to stop on the final day when a suspected electrical glitch took hold.

“The rally started really well for us, I was up in fourth at the first service and I didn’t think I’d be anywhere near that with a new car on an event like this,” Creighton explained. “The roads are magical and everything was going well until the puncture slowed us down on Saturday afternoon. But lots was learned and it was a great experience coming over from Ireland.

“The ceremonial start in Rome was a real highlight and the pace among the Rally4 cars was world championship level so it was a great to be part of that. It’s disappointing we didn’t keep going but I’ve got to take a lot of positives out of it.”

Of his exit on Sunday afternoon, Creighton explained: “It was happening in [Sunday] morning’s stages. The guys did what they could in service but in the first stage after [SS10] it cut out at a hairpin. We got it going again but then everything died and we were parked up by the side of the road.”
