Autoklub of Czech Republic-backed FIA ERC Junior Under 27 talent Dominik Brož suffered a devastating start to PZM Rally Poland, retiring on the opening stage for a second consecutive ERC rally.
Brož retired from the opening test on Barum Czech Rally Zlín after crashing out but this time was halted by a technical problem, grinding to a standstill only one kilometre into the Mikołajki Arena superspecial.
As Saturday’s eight stages are a continuation of leg one, which began with Friday afternoon’s superspecial, Brož will not be able to resume his rally until Sunday, should he return to action under Rally2 rules.
ERC Junior Under 27 is led by Rally Team Spain’s Efrén Llarena after stage one, establishing a 0.7s advantage over Mārtiņš Sesks aboard his PEUGEOT 208 R2.
“I was a bit safe with tyres and made a few mistakes with shifting gears. The real fight starts tomorrow anyway,” said Sesks.
Sesks’ ADAC Opel Rallye Junior team-mate Tom Kristensson is third, 1.9s behind Llarena.
