Dani Sordo’s outing on the FIA European Rally Championship-counting Barum Czech Rally Zlín last summer has proved to be more than worthwhile for Hyundai Motorsport.
World championship star Sordo took part on the demanding asphalt event primarily to showcase the Hyundai i20 R5 to potential customers in Czech Republic, but ended up securing third place in a dramatic final-stage battle.
Although the Spaniard’s appearance in the ERC generated significant media coverage and attracted a substantial fan following, it has also helped the company to achieve the first sale of an i20 R5 in Czech Republic.
Earlier today, Czech rallying stalwart Martin Vlček took delivery of one of the Korean machines with a national championship programme likely in 2019. And with Barum Czech Rally Zlín once again counting for Czech and European championship points when it takes place from 16-18 August, an eighth ERC appearance in south-eastern Moravia for Vlček is expected, only this time in a Hyundai i20 R5.
