Bruno Magalhães is focused on claiming an EKO Acropolis Rally podium rather than going all out to prevent Alexey Lukyanuk from making it three wins out of three in the FIA European Rally Championship.
Last year’s ERC runner-up is aiming to hit back from a tough Rally Islas Canarias – where mechanical issues hampered his pace – by landing his second podium of 2018 on arguably the toughest rally of them all.
“It’s a difficult rally with very rough stages,” said the Portuguese. “Everybody knows Lukyanuk, in normal conditions, is very, very fast and it’s very difficult in normal conditions to be in front of him. But in rallies everything can happen, especially in Acropolis. But I’m not very worried about Lukyanuk because my focus is to stay in the podium and other drivers will be fast. I’m focused to make a good job, I want to make a podium and recover some points if it’s possible.”
If Magalhães can finish on the podium in Greece, then he plans to dedicate the result to sponsor SEAJETS. “We arrived together in the Acropolis one year ago and it’s a good opportunity to make a good job for them,” he said. “I hope I can get some points to dedicate to them.”
Magalhães, who finished second on the Acropolis Rally last season, will drive a ARC Sport ŠKODA Fabia R5. Namesake Hugo Magalhães will co-drive on the event, which runs from 1-3 June.
