ERC aspirant Brynildsen continues to fly

Beyond committing to Sweden’s upcoming round of the world championship, Brynildsen has yet to put his international campaign for this season in place, having switched from Ford to ŠKODA power as part of an alliance between Autotek Motorsport and Toksport WRT.

After crashing out of the podium fight on the FIA European Rally Championship finale in Liepāja, Latvia last October, Brynildsen returned to competition on the second event of the Norwegian championship season, last weekend’s Rally Hadeland, where he was leading until a mechanical glitch struck and demoted him and co-driver Veronica Engan to fourth behind a top three of Ole Christian Veiby, Mads Østberg and Henning Solberg.

Of his Rally Hadeland heroics, Brynildsen explained: “I hadn’t been in a rally car since I was upside down in Latvia. I only did a few runs up and down a road before the start but it just felt natural to give it a push. Stage one was very controlled, stage two was a big push but we had to stop in the stage because the car in front went off. I won stage three, I won stage four but on stage five I had some engine issues. I started to play with the settings to try to solve the problem, but I got a bit out of line and spun. But I was proud to have just jumped into the car and beaten some strong rivals.”

Although Brynildsen has secured partnerships with companies such as Blaklader, JCB, 7-Eleven Norge, ŠKODA Norge and YX Norge, he is still searching for the full budget needed to contest the ERC and bid to become the first Norwegian to win the coveted FIA title.
