Czech federation-backed Erik Cais further underlined his potential when he finished second overall on last weekend’s Vančík Rallysprint Kopná, his debut in an R5 car.
The former downhill mountain bike champion turned FIA ERC3 Junior Championship contender, swapped his Ford Fiesta R2 for the R5 version for the Slušovice-based event, which runs on sections of stages that feature on the route of Barum Czech Rally Zlín, Cais’ home round of the European Rally Championship.
Co-driven by Jindřiška Žáková, Cais was 10.8s behind winner Miroslav Jakeš but ahead of a number of drivers with vastly more experience.
Part of the ACCR Czech Rally Team in the ERC, Cais entered the Vančík Rallysprint Kopná as a replacement for next month’s Rally Islas Canarias, which he is unable to contest due to clashing school exams.
