Łukasz Habaj says his outing on Rallye Sanremo has made him “smart” ahead of next month’s Rally Islas Canarias, which he will start as the leader of the FIA European Rally Championship.
The Azores Rallye winner finished in eighth place on the Italian championship event, his first experience of driving his Sports Racing Technologies ŠKODA Fabia R5 on asphalt.

“It was a huge testing field for us and we got a lot of information we have to analyse,” Habaj told Rallylink.it’s Gianluca Nataloni. “The result maybe was not great but the objective was to do some testing. Now I have some information about how this car is working. I had to get some feelings and now I am smart.”

One-time ERC title contender Craig Breen beat Simone Campedelli to victory by 4.3s with former European champions Giandomenico Basso and Luca Rossetti third and fourth respectively. For Breen’s co-driver Paul Nagle, it was the Irishman’s first Rallye Sanremo victory for 10 years after he partnered Kris Meeke to victory in 2009.

Rally Islas Canarias takes place from 2-4 May. The ERC will be making its annual visit to Italy and Rally di Roma Capitale from 19-21 July
