Reigning FIA European Rally Championship Junior U28 title holder Marijan Griebel will not return for Azores Airlines Rallye’s final leg, electing to save budget for future events.
Griebel faced a challenging second day in the Azores, his car proving difficult to handle around the tricky gravel stages.
Dropping out of points scoring places from P8 to P17 over the course of Friday’s six stages, Griebel packed up his PEUGEOT 208 T16 last night to focus on future ERC events.
“In our current situation and position, we have no chance for championship points. Therefore, it makes no sense for us to continue to burden the already tight budget,” said Griebel in a Facebook statement.
“Thanks to the guys from the team and Stefan [Kopczyk, his co-driver], who has sacrificed a lot of time and energy for the rally, and sorry to all the fans.”
