The FIA European Rally Championship’s popularity has had an unintended side-effect on Rally di Roma Capitale, with more spectators descending on stage nine than could safely be handed leading to its cancellation.
Rocca di Cave’s morning run was due to kick off at 09h11 CET (10h11 local time) but as thousands of eager fans descended to witness ERC’s top drivers kick off Leg Two, it was not deemed safe to run at full speed.
Instead, crews will treat stage nine as a liaison section run within normal speed limits, heading directly to stage 10, the 12.4 kilometre Monastero test.
