Jari Huttunen is determined to avoid running first on the road when he makes his FIA European Rally Championship comeback this week.
Huttunen, runner-up in last season’s Pirelli-sponsored FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship, is tackling PZM Rally Poland as part of his Hyundai Driver development Program schedule.
Following two days of reconnaissance, the Finnish Hyundai i20 R5 driver said: “Road position will be quite important because there is a lot of loose gravel. If you start first, then it’s a catastrophe.”
He continued: “The stages are very fast, a bit softer than in Finland if I compare Finland. I’m surprised because there are a couple of big jumps but I’ve been [in Poland] on gravel so it’s really interesting and so high-speed. I’m without any test so it’s a bit hard to find confidence and there are a lot of fast drivers like [Alexey] Lukyanuk and [Nikolay] Gryazin.”
PZM Rally Finland gets underway tomorrow (Friday).
