Kajetan Kajetanowicz remains on course for an historic FIA European Rally Championship triple despite finishing outside the podium places on Barum Czech Rally Zlín on Sunday.
Kajetanowicz finished fifth to extend his title lead over Bruno Magalhães after the Portuguese could only manage ninth on the Tarmac showpiece.
While Giandomenico Basso and Luca Rossetti have claimed three ERC crowns, no driver has done so consecutively.
“It was a good rally, not perfect but really good and mentally demanding,” said the LOTOS Rally Team-run Kajetanowicz. “I am happy that we came here and got involved in a fight, avoiding taking any crazy risk. Just like after each rally, now we will analyse and check what we could improve. It was a good job by the whole LOTOS Rally Team that allowed us to extend our advantage over Bruno Magalhães and thanks to that we will go to Italy with positive mindset. I know it will not be easy there, it is a new rally for me and another huge challenge.”
Rally di Roma Capitale takes place from 15-17 on all-asphalt stages in and around the Italian city.
