ŠKODA Motorsport protégé Juuso Nordgren took a safety-first approach to Rally di Roma Capitale’s Qualifying Stage, keen to bounce back from a challenging second FIA European Rally Championship outing.
Nordgren has included ERC in his rally programme for 2018 to give him more experience in a variety of challenging conditions, from the rough gravel of EKO Acropolis Rally to Rally di Roma Capitale’s asphalt surface.

Though top finishes have yet to come, Nordgren has already set three fastest stage times in his first pair of ERC rallies. He retired from both EKO Acropolis Rally and Cyprus Rally from excessive tyre wear and accident damage respectively, so clean stages are his highest priority this weekend.

That safety-first approach meant he was only P10 in Thursday’s Qualifying Stage, albeit with potential to go much faster as the weekend progresses.

"[It was] quite difficult. [There was] surprisingly much gravel on the road, so [I was] very cautious in those places,” said Nordgren after his qualifying run.

Nordgren’s Qualifying Stage result means he will be the 10th driver to select a start order position tomorrow, which takes place at 1500 CEST in Rome’s iconic Castel Sant’Angelo.
