Polo GTI R5 selling fast ahead of new ERC season

Volkswagen Motorsport Director Sven Smeets has said interest in the firm’s all-new Polo GTI R5 is overwhelming as the start of the 2018 FIA European Rally Championship season approaches.
Fifteen examples of the car are set to be delivered to customers in the second half of this year with Austrian squad Baumschlager Rallye & Racing – the team behind Marijan Griebel’s ERC Junior Under 28 success in 2017 – completing orders for three.
“We are overwhelmed by the positive feedback on the Polo GTI R5,” said Smeets. “The customer demand is enormous. We are obviously pleased about this, and it is an additional motivation to provide the teams with the best possible rally car.”
Subject to homologation, the Polo GTI R5 could be eligible for competitive use in the ERC from Barum Czech Rally Zlín (24-26 August) onwards.
