Sergei Remennik overcame his limited asphalt knowledge to win the ERT2 section of the FIA European Rally Trophy finale, which took place on Rallye Casinos do Algarve in Portugal last weekend (16-17 November).
Teaming up with stand-in co-driver Marina Daniolva, Remennik was embroiled in a thrilling lead battle with Ricardo Costa until the Portuguese was forced out early on leg two with a loss of powersteering.
“It was an amazing race, in fact, very difficult but it was really cool," said Russian Remennik, runner-up in the FIA European Rally Championship’s ERC2 category in 2018.  "We were determined to push hard but, unfortunately, Costa’s car broke and then it was an easy victory, because the other guys couldn’t pursue us.
"The roads were really tricky, which made it really enjoyable. It has also been really exciting to have Marina alongside me here as my co-driver. Everything she did went perfectly. We’re really happy to end the final as ERT2 [winners].”
Turkey’s Mustafa Çakal/Mehmet Köleoglü finished second, while William Maviitty/Brian Daniels ended their second Rallye Casinos do Algarve start with another third place.
