Great Britain’s women edged a nervy penalty shootout to win their first Olympic hockey gold medal after a 3-3 draw with the Netherlands at Rio 2016.

Goalkeeper Maddie Hinch was supreme between the posts, saving all four penalties in the shootout and another in normal time as GB completed their eighth triumph in as many games.
However, GB were outclassed for the majority of the contest and were staring at silver medals until a late scramble from a penalty corner saw them snatch an unlikely equaliser.
The opening four penalties were all missed, before Helen Richardson-Walsh and Holly Webb finally struck to secure a 2-0 shootout win.
Hinch's excellence was not confined to penalties, either. It was nothing short of remarkable that GB made it that far, with the 27-year-old denying the world champions with a catalogue of high-quality saves.

The victory saw GB climb onto 24 gold medals in Brazil, just five shy of their haul from London 2012 with two days remaining.
