Nathan Chen produced a masterful display to successfully defend his men's singles title at the World Figure Skating Championships with a dominant win in Saitama.
The 19-year-old compiled 323.42 points to beat Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu and fellow American Vincent Zhou to the top spot.
Chen raced into an early lead by scoring 107.40 on the short program, 11 more than Jason Brown in second, and he converted that into a comfortable win by again top-scoring in the free skate, with 216.02.
Elsewhere, France's Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron secured their fourth ice dancing world title and set a new world record thanks to a superb routine to Rachael Yamagata's ‘Sunday Afternoon'.
They compiled 222.65 points across their two attempts to beat Russia's Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov while USA's Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue took bronze.
"We were exactly here five years ago in Saitama [for the World Championships] and remember the whole experience from those five years. It is incredible,” said Papadakis.
