‘Together’ was the watchword on the Slovakia Ring today, with FIM EWC riders invited to take a spin on the track on four wheels aboard the Team Comtoyou Audi competing in the FIA WTCR / OSCARO. The 3rd round of the WTCR is taking place this weekend as a double-header with the 3rd round of the FIM EWC.
Twenty Endurance riders tried out and clearly enjoyed a lap around the circuit in Team Comtoyou’s Audi RS3 LMS driven by Niels Langeveld and Frédéric Vervisch.
Team SRC Kawasaki France’s three riders David Checa, Jérémy Guarnoni and Erwan Nigon and Honda Endurance Racing’s Randy de Puniet, Sébastien Gimbert and Yonny Hernández – the first to take to the track on the Slovakia Ring – were among the riders seen emerging from the Audi wearing broad smiles.
They were all highly impressed by the car’s grip and corner speed, but felt their motorcycles pack more power when accelerating.
Going by the timesheets, the bikes are faster. The fastest EWC lap so far on this cool, wet weekend in Slovakia was a 2:07.823 by Mike Di Meglio (F.C.C. TSR Honda France), while the fastest driver was Nicky Catsburg (BRC Hyundai) who set a 2:09.639 lap.
The FIM EWC riders and FIA WTCR / OSCARO drivers will meet up again in mid-December at another car and bike double-header in Malaysia: the grand finale of the 2019 WTCR and the first-ever 8 Hours of Sepang.
