GMT94 Yamaha takes control in free practice

GMT94 Yamaha was the only team under the 2-minute mark on the Paul Ricard circuit this morning: a performance that made the squad’s ambitions crystal clear right from official free practice at the Bol d’Or.

A 1’59.633 lap by Lucas Mahias gave FIM EWC 2016 world champion GMT94 the edge this morning over Team SRC Kawasaki (2’00.048) and Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (2’00.183) in free practice at the Bol d’Or, the opening round of the new FIM EWC 2016/2017 season.

Also within the same second, Penz13.com BMW Motorrad Team (2’00.558) placed just ahead of YART Yamaha Official EWC Team (2’00.885) and Japanese squad Trick Star Racing, which is competing for the first time in the full FIM EWC season. Honda Endurance Racing placed 7th in free practice with a 2’00.908 lap, ahead of another Japanese team, F.C.C. TSR Honda (2’01.277).

The top Superstock team, Tati Team Beaujolais Racing on Kawasaki, placed 9th with a 2’01.809 lap, ahead of Yamaha Moto Ain CRT (2’01.915).

Following this preliminary session of tests and adjustments, the teams will get down to the serious business of qualifying this afternoon. 56 teams will be competing in this 80th edition of the Bol d’Or.
