Honda has announced that its factory team HRC is returning to both the Suzuka 8 Hours and JSB1000, the Japanese superbike championship.
The last time an official Honda was entered at the Suzuka 8 Hours was in 2008, when Honda Racing 11’s Ryuichi Kiyonari and Carlos Checa won the race.
Since then, factory-backed teams have flown the Honda colours: Musashi RT Harc-Pro Honda, the Suzuka 8 Hours winner in 2010, 2013 and 2014, and F.C.C. TSR Honda, who took top spot in 2011 and 2012.
However, since 2015 Yamaha Factory has ruled the roost at the Suzuka 8 Hours, racking up three consecutive wins. Firmly decided to give Yamaha a run for its money, Honda will be fielding its Team HRC anew at both the Suzuka 8 Hours 2018 and the highly competitive JSB1000, the Japanese superbike championship.
Takumi Takahashi is the first HRC rider to be confirmed to do battle on the two fronts.
The Suzuka 8 Hours is slated to take place on 29 July 2018.
