Wome quits

Wome, who is at the centre of a long-standing row after missing a penalty that cost Cameroon a place at last year's World Cup, said certain players were interfering in squad selection.

Wome, 27, was left out of Saturday's African Nations Cup qualifier against Liberia in Yaounde.

"I met authorities and I thought all had been forgiven, but apparently this is not the case. I am therefore going to confine myself exclusively to my club career from now on," he told the Cameroon Tribune.

"The coaches no longer take responsibilities and there are players who are now choosing the squad. I could understand it if it was the choice of the coach not to summon me, but not the interferences of certain players."

Wome, who plays for Werder Bremen in Germany, was recalled to the Cameroon squad last October for the first time, ending a year of being ignored after the penalty miss that earned him heavy criticism from team mate Samuel Eto'o.

Wome did not play in a Nations Cup qualifier against Equatorial Guinea nor February's friendly in Togo but did travel to Yaounde to talk to officials about his international future.

The full back, whose career has seen him also play in England, Italy and Spain, debuted for Cameroon as a teenager and was a member of the under-23 side that won Olympic gold in Sydney in 2000.

Wome also played at the 1998 and 2002 World Cup finals and won the Nations Cup with Cameroon in 2000 and 2002.

Meanwhile, Cameroon have called up Swiss-based defender Armand Deumi.

The FC Thun defender replaces Reading's Andre Bikey, who pulled out of the squad because his passport is in the post as he seeks a renewal of his British work permit.
