Nigeria have named former captain Stephen Keshi as national team coach following the sacking of Samson Siasia.
Siasia was fired after failing to guide the Super Eagles to the 2012 African Cup of Nations finals and Keshi, who has been an assistant coach to his country in the past, has been briefed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The 49-year-old was best-known as a Belgium-based defender who played in USA 1994 but rose to prominence on the touchlines as Togo coach during their surprise 2006 World Cup qualification, though he was sacked just before the finals.
Keshi, who skippered Nigeria to the 1994 African Cup of Nations, had three separate spells as Togo boss and also managed the Mali national team.
