Saudi Arabia overpowered South Korea 2-0 at home on Friday to go top of Group A in the final round of Asian 2006 World Cup qualifiers. Meanwhile, Kuwait beat visiting Uzbekistan 2-1 in Friday's other Group A game to earn their first points of the campaign.
Midfielder Saud Khariri swept home from close range in the 29th minute after excellent work from Yasser Al Qahtani to stun 2002 World Cup semi-finalists South Korea.
Al Qahtani scored from the penalty spot in the 65th minute after he was brought down by defender Park Dong-hyuk to send the Saudis top with four points from two matches. South Korea have three points after beating Kuwait 2-0 at home in their opening match last month.
Kuwait beat visiting Uzbekistan 2-1 in Friday's other Group A game to earn their first points of the campaign.
Saudi Arabia were held to a 1-1 in Uzbekistan in their opening game but they restricted 2002 World Cup semi-finalists South Korea to a handful of half chances in Dammam.
South Korea threatened briefly in the second half through Park and Europe-based midfielder Lee Chun-soo until Al Qahtani's penalty killed off the game.
