From the 30-man shortlist, France Football provided a tense countdown of the world's top players - with Cristiano Ronaldo winning his fourth Ballon d'Or.
But, strangely, the announcement of the winner was not at the end - to provide further suspense, presumably because the winner was leaked, France Football ran through numbers five to two after announcing the Portuguese as the victor.
