Boca relinquish league leadership for first time since 2016

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Boca Juniors suffered a 2-0 defeat by Estudiantes on Monday that knocked the Buenos Aires club off the top of the Argentine first division for the first time in 617 days.

Second half goals from Fabian Noguera and Matias Pellegrini gave the team from La Plata a deserved victory and ended Boca's impressive run that began on Dec. 11, 2016 when they beat arch rivals River Plate 4-2.
Since then they have ended every round of fixtures at least level on points at the top of the first tier, winning two first division titles in the process.
Monday's defeat means Boca end the second round of games 11th in the 28-team Superliga.
Estudiantes moved level at the top on a maximum six points with Rosario Central, while Union could join them wioth a win later on Monday in San Martin. (Reporting by Andrew Downie; Editing by Ken Ferris)
