Japan defender Tsuneyasu Miyamoto has signed for Red Bull Salzburg, his current club Gamba Osaka said. Miyamoto, 29, has been at Osaka for 11 years and finally makes the move to Europe after an illustrious J-League career.
"I wanted to play for overseas clubs", the two-time World Cup captain said. "I want to improve my skills in completely different conditions."
"I'm ready to show 100% of what I've learned through my experiences with Gamba Osaka and the National Team.
"I'd like to play like a Freshman."
Miyamoto is remembered by many for playing with a broken nose wearing a mask during the 2002 World Cup, earning him the nickname "Batman", and scored three goals in 71 international appearances.
Salzburg are currently top of the Austrian Bundesliga and he is free to join as the Japanese season has already finished, in which Osaka came second.
