Football news - Reiss Nelson continues blistering form as Arsenal loanee seals Hoffenheim win
Updated 10/11/2018 at 17:28 GMT
Reiss Nelson continued his excellent form as the on-loan Arsenal youngster scored the winner for Hoffenheim against Augsburg on Saturday.
Nelson had only been on the pitch for two minutes when he made a decisive impact to help Hoffenheim clinch a 2-1 win in the Bundesliga.
The Englishman is going from strength to strength in Germany, and the 18-year-old sent another reminder to Unai Emery of his immense talent at the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
Nelson would appear determined not to be upstaged by the exploits of Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, and he is currently averaging a goal every 51 minutes with his adopted club.
His latest star performance comes amid reports that Arsenal are considering recalling the youngster due to his success. Last week, he became the Bundesliga's third youngest player to score five league goals.
Nelson, whose contract with the Gunners does not expire until the summer of 2022, has now contributed six goals and one assist, helping to propel Hoffenheim up to fifth in the table.
Alfred Finnbogason cancelled out Andrej Kramaric's 65th-minute opener for Hoffenheim on Saturday, but Nelson had the final word.
Hoffenheim manager Julian Nagelsmann said following his side's win: "Nelson proved himself to be a goalscorer. It wasn't a well-deserved win, but it certainly wasn't undeserved.
"We tried to surprise them by playing a back four. The first half was hard to settle into and to make our mark on tactically.
"After our Champions League game, it took a bit of time to get the engines fired up but we did well in the end."
