A big win for Augsburg that boosts their chances of staying up this season signiicantly, but what a dreadful performance from Schalke. Schameful, actually. They have now gone NINE games in the league without a win and that run means they have now dropped to eighth place in the table. Wagner has a lot of work to do to turn this around.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Schalke 0-3 Augsburg
Big questions will be asked of Wagner and his players after this one. This result and performance has actually been WORSE than the one they turned in against Dortmund last weekend.
- GoalSergio CórdovaFC Augsburg
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Schalke 0 Augsburg 3 (91 mins - Sergio Cordova). Oh dear! What a disastrous game for Schalke and it's ANOTHER defensive calamity! The hosts were found napping at the back and Cordova nipped in to win the ball, round Schubert and finish into the back of the net! Comprehensive!
There will be just three minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
PICTURE: Augsburg have played this one perfectly.
Not so long ago the aim for Schalke was to qualify for European football next season, but their recent form means that a top half finish might be the revised target. Crumbling campaign.
- OffCarlos GruezoFC Augsburg
- OnReece OxfordFC Augsburg
And here comes Oxford for the final few minutes of this match.
- OffFlorian NiederlechnerFC Augsburg
- OnSergio CórdovaFC Augsburg
Niederlechner led the line very well for Augsburg this afternoon and he comes off for Cordova.
- OffRabbi MatondoFC Schalke 04
- OnBenito RamanFC Schalke 04
... and the second change from the home side sees Raman come on for Matondo.
- OffDaniel CaligiuriFC Schalke 04
- OnNassim BoujellabFC Schalke 04
A double change from Wagner and it's Caligiuri who comes off to be replaced by Boujellab...
On the other hand, it has been a well measured performance from Augsburg. They have sat deep and absorbed the pressure from Schalke and have taken their chances when they have come.
The season started so well for Schalke, but now things are starting to unravel for them. You have to wonder if Wagner's job might be under threat if this dreadul run continues any longer.
In almost every way, this has been a disastrous performance by Schalke. They have looked toothless in attack and have been extremely vulnerable at the back as well. Awful.
Schalke are in deep trouble now and it's difficult to envisage, given what we have seen from them so far this afternoon, how they will possibly dig their way out of this hole.
- GoalNoah-Joel Sarenren-BazeeFC Augsburg
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Schalke 0 Augsburg 2 (76 mins - Noah-Joel Sarenren-Bazee). That's surely the points in the bag for the away side! it's yet another case of dreadful defending from Schalke, with the ball presented to Sarenren-Bazee 25 yards out and the youngster made no mistake in lashing home a finish! Great goal from Augsburg!
- OffWeston McKennieFC Schalke 04
- OnMünir Levent MercanFC Schalke 04
Another change for the away side and McKennie comes off to be replaced by another youngster.
Augsburg entered this match four points above the relegation playoff place in the Bundesliga table. A win here, should they hold on, would take them seven clear. That would be huge.
PICTURE: Tough times for Schalke.
Just wide! That's the closest Schalke have come to finding the back of the net this afternoon! Gregoritsch got above his marker from a corner kick, but headed just wide of the post!
Can anyone get Schalke going in the final 20 minutes of this match? This has been a realy poor performance from Wagner's side. They have created so little with so much of the ball.
- OffFlorian NiederlechnerFC Augsburg
- OnSergio CórdovaFC Augsburg
The goalscorer Lowen comes off for Augsburg and he is replaced by Cordova.
Schubert makes the save! Max lined up the freekick on the edge of the Schalke penalty area, but the goalkeeper watched the curling effort all the way and makes a solid save to his left.
It's Schalke who need a goal most of all, but it's Augsburg who have created the best two goalscoring opportunities in this second half. This has been really poor from the hosts.
Richter... straight at the keeper! That was another good opportunity for the away side to add a second goal, but Richter shoots straight at Schubert from inside the penalty area. Big chance!
- Yellow cardCarlos GruezoFC Augsburg
There's a yellow card for Gruezo. He stopped a Schalke counter attack with a foul.
Schubert gives the ball away with a poor kick out from the back, but he gets away with it. That was an issue for the Schalke goalkeeper against Dortmund last weekend as well.
- OffRuben VargasFC Augsburg
- OnNoah-Joel Sarenren-BazeeFC Augsburg
A first change for Augsburg and Vargas comes off. He might have picked up a knock.
You get the feeling that this is a big 30 minutes in the seasons of both these teams. The pressure on Wagner will become immense if Schalke end up losing this match after what happened last weekend.
Serdar is so important to Schalke in so many different ways. He has seven goals for the season in the Bundesliga and is pretty much the only reliable goalscorer Wagner has.
PICTURE: Augsburg are edging closer to a big win.
- OffSuat SerdarFC Schalke 04
- OnAhmed KutucuFC Schalke 04
This is a blow for Schalke as Serdar comes off with an injury.
Serdar is down again! This time it doesn't look so good for the Schalke man. He is now off the pitch receiving some treatment. Might Wagner be forced into a change here? Bad news.
It should be noted that Bundesliga teams are permitted to make five changes from the bench. This change in the rules is designed to ease the burden on players asked to play so many times over the next few weeks.
Serdar goes down! This will be a concern for Wagner. Serdar has gone down with a knock, but it looks like the German midfielder will be fine to continue. He's back on his feet.
Some stats from the first half...
Looking at the replay of that last Augsburg chance, Niederlechner really should have found a teammate in the middle. The angle was much better for Lowen who was unmarked!
Schubert makes the save! That was a genuine opportunity for Augsburg to double their advantage, with Niederlechner bursting into the box, but his shot is straight at the keeper when he had support!
PICTURE: Matondo was lively in the first half.
Schalke came into this match in eigth place having dropped down the table after yesterday's results. A win here would push them back up to sixth, but time is getting away from them.
Serdar has been trying to make things happen for Schalke in the centre of the pitch, but he has so few options ahead of him that he has been forced to take on a couple shots himself.
Augsburg have been rather comfortable. They haven't seen much of the ball, but since taking the lead through a stunning freekick they have been quite content just to sit deep.
Scoring goals has been a real issue for Schalke this season. They have been toothless in the final third in this match. They lack a real goalscorer to lead the line. Fundamental.
Schalke have to be much better in this second half. They were poor in the opening 45 minutes, creating just one real goalscoring opportunity through Matondo. They must improve.

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Schalke 0-1 Augsburg. Another dismal half of football for Schalke. Wagner has a lot of work to do at the half time interval because Augsburg have looked rather comfortable.
That was a rough tackle from Richter on Matondo, but play was allowed to continue and the Schalke winger has picked himself up. He wil become more and more of a target as he improves.
Just a few minutes until the half time interval - is there a chance left in this half for either side? A second goal for Augsburg would be a hammer blow to Schalke. Doesn't look likely at this time, though.
Augsburg win a corner kick after a counter attack forward, but the set piece comes to nothing. That was the first time the away side had ventured beyond the halfway line in some time.
The cross is clipped into the middle from the left side by Schalke, but Augsburg have the physical edge on them and are able to head away and then clear the danger. One dimensional.
It should be noted that this is Herrlich's first game on the touchlines as Augsburg manager. He was appointed before the coronavirus shutdown and then was suspended for last week.
Matondo has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer. The Welsh winger has plenty of potential, but he's still very raw. He's not the finished product like Sancho is.
There's just 10 minutes until the half time interval - can Schalke find an equaliser to at least give them a platform for the second half? This has been a poor showing so far.
It's difficult to work out what Wagner wants from his team in the final third. Gregoritsch is playing as the centre forward, but at times it's almost as if he's playing as a wide man instead!
Schalke are starting to use Matondo as an attacking outlet more often now. That's probably a wise thing to do. The former Manchester City winger has looked dangerous.
That's the first scoring chance Schalke have created. They need to take more chances in the final third. That's exactly what Matondo did there by driving into the box and look what happened.
Big chance for Matondo! Great play from the Welsh winger to drive into the Augsburg penalty area, but Luthe came off his line to make the save with his feet. That was a big opportunity! He should have scored!
PICTURE: Lowen gave Augsburg the early lead.
The possession stats tell the story of a match that Schalke have controlled, but the reality has been very different. It's Augsburg who look like they are controlling things, even if they haven't had as much of the ball.
Serdar shoots over! The Schalke central midfielder takes aim from outside the penalty area, but he gets it all wrong and lashes the ball high and wide of the target. That was poor.
Wagner is instructing his team to play with a higher tempo. He's right to want that. Schalke have seen plenty of the ball, but Augsburg have found it so easy to repel the hosts.
Of course, Schalke are a club suffering from financial troubles at the moment. The hope was that Wagner was building something for the future, but their recent form has been concerning.
That was a bit rash from Kenny. The on loan Everton full back bundled into the back of an Augsburg player and gets a talking to from the referee for his troubles.
The defensive resolve from Augsburg has been rather impressive in the opening 20 minutes or so of this match. They are quite happy just to shuffle from side to side.
It's all so pedestren from Schalke. They need some width. Matondo has been a lot of the ball early on, but the former Manchester City youngster is too quick to cut inside into the middle.
Serdar is now dropping deep in between the two centre backs to pick up the ball and drive it forward. It's in the final third where things are breaking down for the home team, though.
Kenny is seeing plenty of the ball out on the left wing. The on loan Everton full back has been in good form for Schalke this season. Schalke want to keep him, but might not be able to afford him.
Down in the box! Augsburg move the ball quickly forward when they have it, releasing Niederlechner into the area. He goes down under pressure, but there was nothing in that.
Schalke have dominated the majority of the early possession, but they have done very little with it. Augsburg look quite happy just to sit back and absorb the home team's pressure.
Wagner looks somewhat concerned on the touchline. Schalke lost just three of their opening 17 games in the Bundesliga this season, but things are crumbling for them.
Serdar has been one of Schalke's most dependable sources of goals this season. The central midfielder has six in his last nine matches. His team needs him to come up big today.
Finding the back of the net has been a real problem for Schalke in 2020. They have scored just four in nine games. That toothlessness is causing them real issues.
Into the box! Caligiuri gets a freekick into the Augsburg penalty area, with Sane getting on the end of the delivery, but the centre back can't make a clean connection. Did it come off his shoulder?
- Yellow cardRuben VargasFC Augsburg
Vargas becomes the first player to be shown a yellow card this afternoon.
Things go from bad to worse for Schalke. They had actually started this match as the better of the two teams, but they now find themselves trailing to a side fighting relegation.
- GoalEduard LöwenFC Augsburg
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Schalke 0 Augsburg 1 (7 mins - Eduard Lowen). What an incredible strike! Lowen lined up the freekick 25 yards out and curled a powerful effort over the wall and into the back of the Schalke net! Schubert got a hand to the strike, but it wasn't enough! The away side have the lead!
It's been a bright start from the home side, although Schopf has just fouled Khedira in the centre of the pitch and this will give Augsburg the opportunity to test Schubert in the Schalke goal.
Flap from the keeper! Gregoritsch's cross into the area had Luthe worried, with the Augsburg getting a finger-tip to it to put it behind for a corner kick. The set piece comes to nothing.
Todibo has dropped out of the Schalke lineup today due to injury. The defender has recently been linked with a move to Everton, although the Toffees mustn't have been watching last weekend.
Schubert has been given the nod for Schalke this afternoon, but Wagner has been burdened with two out of form goalkeepers this season, with Nubel also having his troubles.
Schalke have to be much better this afternoon. They were truly dreadful against Borussia Dortmund last weekend, losing 4-0 to their fiercest rivals. A win has to be the target today.
- 1st Half
The match is under way! It's Schalke against Augsburg in this Bundesliga fixture!
Okay, we're about to get started at the Veltins Arena. The two teams are out on the pitch. Kick off is just moments away.
Augsburg, on the other hand, are fourth points above the relegation playoff place. A win here would really boost their chances of staying up.
Schalke have dropped down to eighth place in the Bundesliga table but will go back to sixth place with a victory today.
There are two British players in the Schalke lineup this afternoon, with Kenny and Matondo both enjoying successful breakthrough seasons in the Bundesliga. Can they make the difference today?
Both these teams have been leaking goals recently and both were beaten handely last weekend. Schalke have enjoyed a good season, but their recent form has to be concerning to Wagner!
I'm Graham Ruthven and you can catch me on Twitter ahead of the match to let me know your thoughts. How worred should Wagner be by Schalke's poor run of form? Tweet me!
Ch-ch-ch-changes! Nubel has been dropped by Wagner for this match. The Bayern Munich-bound goalkeeper has been in poor form recently and so Schubert comes in for him this afternoon.
