Julian Nagelsmann confirmed as new Bayern Munich boss, will take charge of champions in the summer

Julian Nagelsmann will become the new head coach of Bayern Munich in the summer and will succeed Hansi Flick. The RB Leipzig boss is highly regarded in Germany for his achievements at the club currently second in the Bundesliga table as well as at Hoffenheim. The youngest coach in Bundesliga history, Nagelsmann guided Hoffenheim to a top-four finish in each of his last two seasons there.
Nagelsmann explains how his record move to Bayern came about
Julian Nagelsmann has been confirmed as the new head coach of Bayern Munich and will begin his role on July 1.
Both RB Leipzig and Bayern announced the decision on Twitter. The move confirms the departure of Bayern's current boss Hansi Flick, who has had his request to terminate his contract accepted.
Flick will step down when his contract expires on June 30. Nagelsmann, 33, has signed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga champions.
Nagelsmann told Leipzig's official website: "I will leave RB Leipzig with a heavy heart. I’ve been able to coach a special team here at a club with huge opportunities and the best possible conditions to work in. Everybody here, including the staff who work alongside the team, have ensured that we’ve written plenty of stories for the club’s history books and are continuing to do so now. I’m really proud of that."
"Julian Nagelsmann represents a new generation of coaching," said Bayern president Herbert Hainer. "Despite his young age he has already had an impressive track record.
We are convinced that with Julian Nagelsmann we will continue the success of the past years.
RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff said: "There has been a lot of activity over the past few days regarding the role as head coach of FC Bayern Munich. Following this, Julian Nagelsmann approached us and expressed in open talks that it is a lifelong dream of his to become coach of FC Bayern, and that he would like to make the move to Munich if the opportunity presented itself after the end of this season.
"Julian has taken a fantastic path in Leipzig and developed the club very successfully. He has not only improved individual players but has also taken the team as a collective to the next level."
Nagelsmann steered Hoffenheim clear of relegation when he took over in February 2016. The following season, he led them to the Champions League for the first time in their history with an attractive brand of free-flowing, attacking football.
The German moved to Leipzig in June 2019 and guided them to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in their history. Prior to that, he became the youngest coach in history to win a Champions League knockout tie.
Flick may well also leave with yet another Bundesliga crown, extending Bayern's league run to nine consecutive titles.
"For me the past two years have been unforgettable," Flick, who is thought to be close to the Germany national team job, said in a club statement. "It was an outstanding time."
"You only have success together. A coach is nothing without a team and I was lucky to have fantastic players here in Munich."

Bayern's relentless pursuit of football dominance is unwavering. Flick did a remarkable job at Bayern. He took over initially on an interim basis in December 2019 to lead the club to every title available, including the Champions League, and they are set to win the league again under him.
However, Bayern's exit to Paris Saint-Germain at the quarter-final stage this campaign will have been an issue with the club's hierarchy, while the Germany national team head coach vacancy looks to have been a key factor in Flick's desire to leave.
Hiring 33-year-old Nagelsmann signals the club's intention to build long-term success. The impending departures of David Alaba and Jerome Boateng hints at the club's willingness to go down a more youthful road and they wish to do so with a progressive coach undoubtedly hungry to add trophies to his highly promising CV.
