Baldini named Parma coach

Silvio Baldini was named the new coach of Parma on Wednesday, the Italian Serie A club said on its website. The 45-year-old, who had been out of work since being sacked by Serie B champions Palermo in January, replaces Cesare Prandelli who last month left Parma to become coach at AS Roma.

Baldini's only previous top flight experience was with Empoli during the 2002-03 season, when he steered the small Tuscan side to a 12th-place finish.

Parma did not immediately disclose the details of his contract.
