Bayern Munich eased to a 3-1 win over Besiktas at the Vodafone Park to progress 8-1 on aggregate to the quarter-final stage of the Champions League.
Bayern Munich started the game 5-0 up from the first leg in Germany, and Besiktas were playing for pride alone.
The home team acquitted themselves well, despite Bayern picking another strong side, but it was Thiago who put the away side ahead with a neat finish from a Thomas Muller cross.
In the second half, a Gokhan Gonul scored what would ultimately be the winner of the game, with the tie already beyond doubt.
Besiktas didn't roll over, and it was Wagner Love who scored Besiktas's first-ever Champions League knockout goal after a defensive mix-up from Bayern's defenders.
Sandro Wagner was on hand to make it 3-1 on the night when he chested in a deflected cross, making sure of Bayern's appearance in the quarter-finals.

TALKING POINT

Can Bayern win the whole thing? They had so little to do in this match, but even playing at half-pace they were sturdy in defence and direct in attack. The attention is on Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City as the knockout stages narrow the field, but it would be foolish to ignore a resurgent and experienced Bayern side.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich): Despite his age, Ribery was constantly probing down the left wing to stretch play for Bayern. He didn't make any crucial interventions, but he demonstrated why he is so important to his team despite his age. His pace has faded, but his talent hasn't.
