Football news - Horror scenes in Athens as AEK fan throws petrol bomb into Ajax fans

An AEK Athens fan threw a petrol bomb into the Ajax support before their Champions League clash in the Greek capital.

Social media shows dreadful images of Ajax supporters being targeted with fireworks and flares as one home fan apparently launched a Molotov cocktail into the Dutch followers.
Riot Police were deployed before the Group E clash to deal with the violence as a fireball erupted,
Police managed to control the AEK fans, who were seen throwing plastic bottles at the visiting fans.

It was reported that Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt ran over to the visiting fans in an attempt to play the role of peacemaker.
At the start of the second half there were further crowd disturbance as several firecrackers were set off.
Players from both sides were seen to be rubbing their eyes as smoke drifted across the Athens Olympic Stadium.
The trouble comes just three days after the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final between Argentinian rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate was postponed because of fan violence.
