Football news - Miralem Pjanic: Cristiano Ronaldo red card 'absurd'
Updated 20/09/2018 at 09:41 GMT
Cristiano Ronaldo's team mate Miralem Pjanic claimed the Portuguese international's red card was 'absurd'.
Ronaldo was sent off after placing his hand on the top of Valencia defender Jeison Murillo's head.
Juventus went on to win the game thanks to two penalties scored by Pjanic and one missed by Valencia's Dani Parejo.
Pjanic spoke to Juventus' official website, and said:
"Football is a strange game. We could have been 4-0 up after the opening period, then came that absurd sending off.
"It was like the Lyon game [in 2016]. We dug deep and found the spirit we needed to take us all the way to the final.
"That’s what we need to do again."
Leonardo Bonucci, the central defender, said that Ronaldo was 'angry' after his sending off, and Valencia's boss Marcelino claimed that Ronaldo was certain he did nothing wrong.
Juventus are joint top of the table in Group H on three points, after Manchester United won 3-0 against Young Boys.
Ronaldo will be suspended against the Swiss club unless the red card is rescinded.
Juve and Manchester United, who cruised past Young Boys, are both on three points in Group H.
