Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois both praised the influence of VAR after their side's 2-1 win over Ajax on Wednesday.
Holders Real found themselves under the cosh in the first half in Amsterdam and the home side felt they had taken the lead when Nicolas Tagliafico headed home following an error from Thibaut Courtois.
However after a period of consultation referee Damir Skomina disallowed the goal, ruling that Dusan Tadic was marginally offside.
Speaking after the game Ramos, who was booked on his 600th Real appearance and will miss the second leg praised the decision.
I have said many times that I am a great defender of the VAR because it will make football fairer little by little.
"We knew how to suffer, read the game and create spaces against them to take advantage of our speed, we achieved a great result and now it's up to them to suffer in our stadium."
Courtois added "The correct decicion? I think so. When it happened I thought it could be offside. When the guy headed it I wanted to go and catch it.
"Because of his [Tadic's] intention I made a quick movement. Luckily for VAR because nobody would have seen it."
In contrast Ajax starlet Frenkie de Jong, who will join Barcelona at the end of the season, was not as convinced.
"As a team we did well, it was too bad that our goal is rejected." De Jong said.
Perhaps something like that is easy to do in favour of the big club, we have also had that.
"But we have continued well and have received our opportunities afterwards. Too bad it did not yield a better result."
