What a performance from Borussia Dortmund. They were dominant. They weathered the Atletico Madrid fightback at the start of the second half and put the visitors away in the final 20 minutes. They are playing with so much confidence at the moment! Dortmund are real contenders, on this basis.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Borussia Dortmund 4-0 Atletico Madrid
There's no stopping Borussia Dortmund at the moment. Top of the Bundesliga table, top of their Champions League group... could Favre's team be the real deal this season?
Three minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
- GoalRaphaël GuerreiroBorussia Dortmund
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Borussia Dortmund 4 (89 mins - Raphael Guerreiro) Atletico Madrid 0. It's FOUR! What was Filipe thinking? He played a pass right across his own box, giving Guerreiro the chance to curl a finish into the corner of the Atletico Madrid net. What a scoreline this is for Dortmund!
- Yellow cardDiego CostaAtlético Madrid
Costa enters the book. The frustration is starting to build among the Atleti players.
This result will make a few sit up and take note across European football. We all knew that Borussia Dortmund were in form, but this has been emphatic from the German side.
That's a first Champions League goal for Sancho, who is enjoying a HUGE breakthrough season for Borussia Dortmund. He looks like the real deal, although he might have been offside.
- GoalJadon SanchoBorussia Dortmund
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Borussia Dortmund 3 (84 mins - Jadon Sancho) Atletico Madrid 0. It's a third for Dortmund and a goal for Sancho! The hosts caught Atletico Madrid short of numbers at the back, with the pass played across the goal for Sancho to finish into the empty net! That's the points secured.
- Yellow cardFilipe LuísAtlético Madrid
A booking for Filipe. This is game is getting away from Atletico Madrid.
Atletico Madrid aren't giving this up without a fight. They are sending numbers forward and it looks like they might be on the verge of a breakthrough. Might be too late, though.
Griezmann opportunity! Atletico Madrid are getting numbers forward, with Godin threading the ball to the Frenchman, but his shot is blocked at the near post. Good chance.
- OffChristian PulisicBorussia Dortmund
- OnJadon SanchoBorussia Dortmund
Dortmund make one last change and it's Sancho who comes off for Pulisic. The two wonderkids.
Tipped on to the post! Correa gets a shot away at the near post, but Burki pushes the ball on to the woodwork! That was the chance for Atletico Madrid to get back into this game.
It's dangerous to write off a team as good as Atletico Madrid, but you get the feeling that this game is as good as decided. Dortmund are good value for their lead. They deserve to be winning.
Driven over by Pulisic! The American bursts into space about 25 yards out from the Atletico Madrid goal, but from distance he leans back and sends his effort into the stands.
- GoalRaphaël GuerreiroBorussia Dortmund
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Borussia Dortmund 2 (73 mins - Raphael Guerreiro) Atletico Madrid 0. The Germans have doubled their advantage! Achraf gets down the left side and cuts back a pass for Guerreiro, who finds the far corner of the Atletico Madrid net with a guided finish. Dortmund might be out of sight!
Was there contact? Correa was looking to get on the end of a ball inside the penalty area. He goes down under the challenge of Diallo, but the referee decides it wasn't a spot kick.
The more that Atletico Madrid send players forward, the more space there is for Borussia Dortmund to exploit in behind. The issue is moving into that space quick enough.
- OffSaúlAtlético Madrid
- OnÁngel CorreaAtlético Madrid
A change for the away side now and it's Correa who comes on. Can he make the difference?
Dortmund appear to have weathered the Atletico Madrid storm at the start of the second half and are now pressing again. The introduction of Guerreiro has invigorated them.
All of a sudden we have a real game on our hands. Atletico Madrid had been on top since the half time break, but now it's Borussia Dortmund who are pressing for the next goal.
A wasted opportunity! Reus burst through the Atletico Madrid defence, he was clean through... then Achraf takes the ball off his toes and the tackle is made to deny him. Reus isn't happy.
Atletico Madrid played quite deep in the first half, but they have moved their defensive line about 10 yards up the pitch and that is allowing them to pressure much higher.
One of the reasons Costa has been quiet this evening is that Borussia Dortmund have paid the Atletico Madrid striker very close attention. He can normally deal with that, though.
- OffJacob Bruun LarsenBorussia Dortmund
- OnRaphaël GuerreiroBorussia Dortmund
Indeed, there's the change from Dortmund and it's Guerreiro who comes on.
One player we haven't mentioned much this evening is Costa. This is his first game since recovering from an injury picked up a few weeks ago. Is he maybe still struggling for fitness?
Will we see a change from Favre soon? Borussia Dortmund have become rather passive in this second half. They need an outlet on the break. Could Sancho give them that?
It's wave after wave from Atletico Madrid at the moment. Borussia Dortmund have lost control of the match in the middle of the pitch. Koke and Saul have taken a real grip.
Dortmund need to find a way to get out from their own half. Atletico Madrid are camped on the edge of their penalty area, although the Germans are doing well in holding firm.
This is much, much better from Atletico Madrid. They are well in control, and in contrast to the first half, they look dangerous whenever they make it into the final third of the pitch.
Saul has taken a grip of this game in the second half for Atletico Madrid. He carries such a goal threat from midfield, as we have seen in the opening few minutes of this second period.
The bar is still rattling! Inches away from an equaliser for Atleti! Saul whipped the effort from 20 yards out, he beats Burki, but it comes back off the woodwork and bounces away.
Saul past the post! That wasn't far away from the Spanish international. He took the ball on his chest and set up the shot from the edge of the box, but he dragged it wide.
Simeone has already got a reaction from his players. Atletico Madrid have started the second half on top and they are getting more bodies forward on the attack. They're pressing.
It's not surprising that Simeone made a change at the break, but it's somewhat surprising that Lemar wasn't the one who was hooked. The Frenchman has been rather poor.
- OffThomas ParteyAtlético Madrid
- OnRodriAtlético Madrid
Simeone has made a change to his team at the break, with Rodri coming on for Partey.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! Borussia Dortmund have a 1-0 lead over Atletico Madrid.
What did you make of the first half at the Westfalenstadion? Does Simeone need to make changes to his side? Are Dortmund on course for three points? Tweet me!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Atletico Madrid. The Bundesliga table-toppers deserve to be ahead at the half time break. Witsel's strike is the difference between the two sides.
- Yellow cardThomas LemarAtlético Madrid
Lemar is shown a yellow card for catching Piszczek with his studs in the tackle.
Atletico Madrid are holding on a bit now. The goal has put some real wind into the sails of the home side. They want a second goal before the half time whistle blows.
Zagadou header! Close to being a second goal for Borussia Dortmund. Zagadou was up from the back for a corner, got on the end of the delivery, but powered a header wide of the post.
It's Borussia Dortmund who are pressing for a second goal, rather than Atletico Madrid pressing for an equaliser, towards the end of the first half. They are well on top at the moment.
The pass into Witsel for the goal came from Achraf on the left side. The on loan Real Madrid full back has been one of the best players on the pitch in this first half.
What sort of reaction will we get from Atletico Madrid now? Will they come out and chase the game a little bit more? They have five minutes to equalise before the half time break.
- GoalAxel WitselBorussia Dortmund
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Borussia Dortmund 1 (38 mins - Axel Witsel). Atletico Madrid 0. Dortmund have scored the opener and it's Witsel! The Belgian took the shot from about 20 yards, it picked up a big deflection off Lucas and Oblak is wrong-footed. The ball dribbled past him and the hosts have the lead.
Pulisic is starting to have more of an influence on the game. This is a big season for the young American, who has become something of a star for Borussia Dortmund. So much potential.
I can't decide if this is a really good game or a really bad game. It has been played at a pretty decent tempo, but there hasn't been much quality from either side in the attacking third.
- OffThomas DelaneyBorussia Dortmund
- OnMahmoud DahoudBorussia Dortmund
Favre is forced into a change. Delaney has picked up an injury and on comes Dahoud to replace him.
- Yellow cardThomas ParteyAtlético Madrid
Another yellow card and this time it's to Partey. That had been coming for the midfielder.
Griezmann took it early! The Frenchman controls a pass that was played over his shoulder and tried to take the shot early to catch out Burki, but the effort flashes wide of the near post.
Scooped over the bar! That was a half chance for Pulisic. The ball fell to the young American just inside the box, but he leans back and puts his finish over the Atleti crossbar.
A little update from the other games... Liverpool have a 1-0 lead over Red Star Belgrade, while PSG are a goal down at home to Napoli. And it's still 0-0 between Barcelona and Inter.
The referee is allowing the game to flow as much as he can, but one wonders if he is allowing a little too much to flow. Some pretty obvious fouls being committed by both sides.
This is a match that has been played in the centre of the pitch so far. Both sides are struggling to create much in the final third. Atletico Madrid tend to have this effect on games.
Achraf was striding forward, he got to the edge of the box and then seemed to be caught in two minds. In the end Atletico Madrid were able to get bodies around him and crowd him out.
On the whole, Atletico Madrid have probably been the better of the two teams so far, but there hasn't been much in the way of goalscoring opportunities for either side.
Witsel has had quite an impact at Borussia Dortmund since making the move back to Europe from the Chinese Super League. He's the sort of player they needed in midfield.
Decent try! Witsel takes the strike from about 25 yards out, it's on target from the Belgian midfielder, but Oblak watches it all the way, gets his body behind it and makes the save.
The referee thought about booking Achraf for arguing with the man in the middle. The on loan Real Madrid right back wanted a yellow card to be shown to Partey for a deliberate foul.
Borussia Dortmund have played some exceptional, attacking football under Favre this season, but Atletico Madrid are restricting them in that regard this evening. That's what they do.
There was a game in this group earlier this evening, with Club Brugge and Thierry Henry's Monaco playing out a 1-1 draw. That result was music to the ears of Dortmund and Atleti.
Godin hasn't been at his best this season, so while he might be considered one of the very best defenders in the European game, Dortmund can get at him. They must attack the centre back.
It's Atletico Madrid who are on top at the moment. They have had a series of set pieces, but the pressure is eased when Godin nudges Reus in the back and the foul is awarded.
- Yellow cardAbdou DialloBorussia Dortmund
There's the first yellow card of the match and it's shown to Diallo for a foul on Costa.
Griezmann gets the strike away! The pass was played back to the Frenchman, but his effort is blocked by the Borussia Dortmund defence before it could reach Burki in goals.
Will we see this sort of scene tonight?
The home side aren't very happy with the referee there. Gotze was tackled and the foul was awarded, but Dortmund had the ball and had numbers forward. They wanted to play on!
Dortmund have enjoyed an excellent start to the season. Not only have they won both Champions League games so far, they are sitting top of the Bundesliga table by quite some distance.
As mentioned before the match started, Alcacer is missing for Borussia Dortmund this evening. The Spaniard hasn't recovered in time from an injuruy and so Gotze is playing up front!
It's strange to see Atletico Madrid play in their change kit this evening. Rather than their trademark red and white, they're playing in blue with orange flair and lettering on the back. Weird.
Partey has been favoured by Simeone over Rodri in the centre of the pitch. The youngster has been calling for more game time and his manager has granted him that tonight.
This should be a good one. You would have to consider these two teams to be contenders for this season's Champions League. They're in good shape to make the last 16.
- 1st Half
The match is under way! It's Borussia Dortmund against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Here we go. About to get under way at the Westfalenstadion.
The Chaaaaaaaaampions! Ah, that famous old anthem. The national anthem of football.
The players are out on the pitch. YNWA has been given an airing by the home fans already.
Not long until kick off at the Westfalenstadion. The players are in the tunnel.
Group toppers! Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid currently share top spot in Group A, with six points from a possible six. It's likely that both these teams will head through.
First choice! Simeone has picked what is probably his best team for this away game at the Westfalenstadion. Although Atletico Madrid are so strong they do have options on the bench.
I'm Graham Ruthven and you can catch me on Twitter ahead of the game to let me know your thoughts. Who do you fancy for this one? How big a blow is the absence of Alcacer for Dortmund? Tweet me!
No Alcacer! He's been in exceptional form for Dortmund since making the move from Barcelona in the summer, but injury has ruled him out of this game this evening. Good news for Atleti!
