Football news – Manchester City draw Real Madrid in last 16, Liverpool meet Atletico Madrid

Manchester City will meet 13-time winners Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16, while Liverpool return to the scene of their 2019 triumph when they face Atletico Madrid.

Both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp can feel aggrieved at the challenging draw having won their respective groups, with the Madrid clubs finishing second.

Liverpool beat Tottenham, who drew Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig, to win their sixth Champions League at Atletico’s Wanda Metropolitano in June.

Chelsea will play Bayern Munich in a repeat of the 2012 final, with manager Frank Lampard scoring in the penalty shootout in that triumph.

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel faces a reunion with Borussia Dortmund after they drew the French champions, while Barcelona play Napoli.

Juventus’ clash with Lyon and Atalanta’s tie with Valencia completes the draw.

The first legs will take place on February 18, 19, 25 and 26, with the return fixtures on March 10, 11, 17 and 18.
