FT: PSG 1-2 Man Utd. We have been here before, haven't we? PSG's first home defeat in the group stage of the Champions League and, 18 months on from a famous night in the French capital, United have done it again in the Paris rain. What a night. What a start to their return to the Champions League. Thanks for joining us. Goodnight.
PSG throwing everything at this now. Can they find an equaliser?
We have been here before.
Three minutes of added time.
- OffBruno FernandesManchester United
- OnDonny van de BeekManchester United
Double change for United as Fernandes and Martial are replaced by Dan James and Donny van de Beek.
They have been the better team, and could have won it here. Rashford glided past Neymar with ease, before rifling the ball into the bottom corner.
- GoalMarcus RashfordManchester United
GGGGGGOOOOOAAALLLLL!!! PSG 1-2 Man Utd. Cometh the hour, cometh Marcus Rashford once again in Paris! Surely he has won it for United?
- OffÁngel Di MaríaParis Saint-Germain
- OnPablo SarabiaParis Saint-Germain
Two more changes for PSG, with Di Maria and Kurzawa replaced by Pablo Saravia and Mitchel Bakker.
- Yellow cardDanilo PereiraParis Saint-Germain
Vital foul from Danilo stops United on the counter. He will take a booking there.
SAVE! Neymar has time to pick his spot, rifles an effort for goal, but De Gea beats the ball away.
SAVE! Great chance to potentially win it for United, Rashford slides in Fernandes, who elects to pass, it is blocked, only as far as Rashford, who shoots with his left foot, but Navas saves with his legs.
- OffAnder HerreraParis Saint-Germain
- OnRafinhaParis Saint-Germain
Double change for PSG with Colin Dagba and Rafinha on for Herrera and Florenzi.
Great play from Rashford to dart inside before teeing up Fernandes, who fires wide. Should have done better.
Free header for Kean, but that is always heading wide.
Fred to the rescue for United as he nips in to challenge Kurzawa.
- Yellow cardAxel TuanzebeManchester United
Push from Tuanzebe in the back of Mbappe earns the young United defender a yellow card.
SAVE! Great hit from Rashford, across the goalkeeper, but Navas does really well to tip wide of the post.
- OffAlex TellesManchester United
- OnPaul PogbaManchester United
Change for Untied here, with Telles replaced by Paul Pogba. Surely will be a change in system for United now.
Some last-ditch clearances keeping United in this. The visitors remain a danger on the counter, however.
United looking a little less solid at the back as Neymar has a shot blocked.
Both teams really going for this now. United still committing bodies forward.
Not going his way tonight.
Looking to make amends, Martial gets up to meet a Shaw cross, but heads over.
United on the ropes here. Brilliant tackle from Wan-Bissaka to prevent Mbappe getting the shot away.
Corner from Neymar comes in, Martial gets up early but, unchallenged, proceeds to flick the ball into his own net. Seemed to close his eyes as he got up to meet the ball.
- Own-goalAnthony MartialManchester United
GGGGOOOOOAAALLLL!!! PSG 1-1 Man Utd. Nightmare for United as a needless own goal from Martial gets PSG back in it.
CROSSBAR! Kurzawa tries to clip a cross to the back post, but it evades everyone and comes out off the top of the crossbar!
Low cross from Wan-Bissaka is cleared by the home side.
It is still very laboured form the home side here who are taking an age to get forward.
WHAT A SAVE! That is what Mbappe can do, as he twists and turns, darts into space in the box past two men, rifles one for the bottom corner, but De Gea gets his fingertips to it and makes a fantastic save.
No, no, no! United have a two on one situation, Rashford carries it forward, but passes far too early and gets it all wrong.
- 2nd Half
KICK OFF! We are back up and running here. Change for PSG with Moise Kean, on loan from Everton, replacing Isrissa Gueye.
At the second attempt...
HT: PSG 0-1 Man Utd. Great half for United, who deserve their lead. PSG have not had things their own way, and as we have seen on many an occasion, they don't take that too well.
Two added minutes at the end of the first half here.
Two crosses cause United problems, but they deal with them well.
Great turn and run in behind from Rashford, he accelerates clear, but just as he is about to shoot, Diallo gets back to make the tackle.
CLOSE! McTominay gets up highest to meet the corner, doesn't quite connect properly but it still could go in, only for Diallo to just divert it wide.
SAVE! Great play from Fernandes, he cuts onto his right, fires a fierce, dipping effort for goal, but Navas gets across to make a fine save.
It really isn't working...
- Yellow cardScott McTominayManchester United
Well that is one way of dealing with Neymar, as McTominay hacks the Brazilian down. Yellow card.
- Yellow cardNeymarParis Saint-Germain
Neymar, who has been marked out of the game by McTominay so far, is booked for saying something to the referee. He is not happy, at all.
NO PENALTY! Mbappe races clear down the left, Tuanzebe looks like he is struggling, before striding into a fine tackle to win the ball. PSG want a penalty, but the referee is having none of it.
Two late, late flags peg PSG back. Great line from United.
On the counter, United are getting plenty forward, with Alex Telles looking really sharp on the left.
Hosts stepping it up a gear now, but United's system is really solid.
Death, taxes and Messi scoring the Champions League as he gives Barcelona the lead this evening.
The curse of PSG.
United well on top here, and looking likely to score again.
You have to say that took some bottle, having missed the first one. Rashford or Martial are perfectly capable of taking penalties.
- Goal by penaltyBruno FernandesManchester United
GGGGGOOOOOAAALLLL!!! PSG 0-1 Man Utd. At the second time of asking, Fernandes steps up and makes no mistake this time. His fourth goal of the season.
BUT NO! Navas is off his line when making the save, so we go again! Fernandes gets another go!
MISSED! Fernandes misses again from the spot! That is two misses in two! Super stop from Keylor Navas.
PENALTY TO UNITED! Martial fouled in the penalty area by Diallo. Straight forward decision.
Martial darts into the space, gliding past players like he does, he curls for goal, but gets underneath it.
United are penned in at the moment, but they are not afraid to put their foot in. McTominay has already fouled Neymar three times.
Neymar with the free-kick, but straight into the wall.
It is quite the tussle.
SAVE AGAIN! From the resulting corner, PSG go short, Neymar whips a fizzing low cross right into the dangerzone, Layvin Kurzawa is there, prods for goal on the stretch but De Gea makes a vital block again!
SAVE! You cannot give Di Maria that amount of room. United back off, the Argentine cuts onto his left, curls for the top corner, but David de Gea springs across to his right to make the save.
Neymar does well to hold off Scott McTominay, the Brazilian plays in Di Maria, who fouls Victor Lindelof.
Wonderful cross from Bruno Fernandes, Rashford is in the right spot, but Abdou Diallo, Thiago Silva's replacement at the back for PSG, just about deals with it.
Neymar has already started with the flicks and tricks, but United dealing with him well so far.
Marcus Rashford makes the dart down the right, but cannot get the cross over.
It does appear that United are playing with a back three, flanked by wing backs.
- 1st Half
KICK OFF! United get us up and running here!
So here we go. With no Harry Maguire in the United squad it is Bruno Fernandes, less than a year after signing, who leads United out this evening. United are in their rather fetching black and white striped third kit.
HOME COMFORTS: PSG have lost none of their 24 home Champions League group stage matches since the start of the 2012/13 season (W19 D5). Their last home defeat at this stage was in December 2004 against CSKA Moscow (1-3).
His continued absence is a little odd.
Ahead of kick off, catch up with all the latest transfer talk from across Europe, with one of tonight's main attractions facing a potentially uncertain future.
So with the new Champions League season up and running, what can we expect?
The moment United fans remember with a tear in their eye...
What to expect from the home side's attack tonight? Kylian Mbappé has scored 19 UEFA Champions League goals, four of which have been against English teams. Angel Di María assisted more goals than any player in last season’s Champions League, while only Lionel Messi (45) had more carries with a take-on in the 2019/20 Champions League than PSG’s Neymar (36), with the Brazilian progressing further with the ball in total than any other player in last season’s competition
Might needs his creativity tonight.
United are not in everyone's good books, either.
France is not a happy hunting ground for United. United haven’t faced a French side in the Champions League group stage since 2005/06, failing to win either game against Lille (D1 L1). United have in fact only won one of their six away group stage games in France (D3 L2), a 2-1 win at Bordeaux in March 2000.
Hard to see, given the euphoria of the last meeting between these two.
TELLES MAKES DEBUT, TUANZEBE UP AGAINST MBAPPE: The big news for United is that full-back Alex Telles makes his full debut after his deadline day move from Porto, lining up in a five-man defence along with youngster Axel Tuanzebe, who has the unenviable task of keeping out Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. No Paul Pogba again for United, he is on the bench, but Anthony Martial does return to the starting XI. Marquinhos is not fit to start for PSG, but Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria face their former club.
TEAM NEWS - PSG: Keylor Navas; Florenzi, Diallo, Kimpembe, Kurzawa; Gueye, Danilo Pereira, Ander Herrera; Di Maria, Mbappe, Neymar. /// MAN UTD: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Tuanzebe, Shaw, Telles, Fred, McTominay, Fernandes, Rashford, Martial... Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of Manchester United's Champions League opener with Paris Saint-Germain. Back in Europe's elite competition, and what a venue to make their triumphant return - the scene, two seasons ago, for one of United's most famous European comeback victories. That night back in March 2019, against all odds, an injury-ravaged United stormed to a 3-1 win in the Parc des Princes, effectively securing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the job on a permanent basis. Now, the jury is still out on Ole - time for some further Parisian miracle work...
