Full Time

A confidence-boosting display from Real and an embarrassing one from Monchengladbach. Thanks for following the match with us.

A last chance for Benzema to get a hat-trick and of course it is a right-wing cross from Lucas Vazquez which the French striker at the back post tries to head back across Sommer but the Swiss stopper denies him once more.

Zakaria picks up a yellow card for an over-zealous aerial challenge on Kroos.

Kramer, who has been disappointing barring one through-ball is replaced by Benes, with Thuram and Stindl coming off for Wolf and Hermann.

Real hit the post again! Benzema set up Lucas Vazuez with a lovely short through-ball on the edge of the box but his firm drive flew back off the woodwork.

Arribas makes his first Champions League appearance coming on for Rodrygo, with Marco Asensio also replacing Vinicius Jr.

GREAT SAVE! Kroos in acres of space finds Ramos whose header is foiled by a splended diving stop from Sommer and Benzema then crashes the ball against the bar.

A lovely hit from Rodrygo on the half-turn after nice build-up play from Vinicius Jr, Mendy, Modric and Benzema.

Vinicius Jr seems lacking that little edge to make himself a top player. Benzema sets him up going into the left hand side of the penalty area but he foolishly looks to pass back to his fellow striker and the danger is averted.

A free kick lands with Plea at the far side of the area and he takes the ball down beautifully on his chest before hitting a low drive that strikes the side-netting.

Lovely effort from Toni Kroos displaying his two-footed qualities, aiming a left-footer at the top left hand corner and Sommer had to be sharp to keep it out.

It is still very comfortable for Real Madrid. A touch of the Harlem Globetrotters about them now as they are happy to showboat.

Plea is though on goal but after Ramos initially half-tackled him he puts his effort wide. He was clearly offside so would have been disallowed anyway.

The German outfit are at least having some play in the Real third. On this occasion Zakaria drives a ball into the box but it is comfortably cleared.

Modric drives a ball inside the six-yard box but no striker is there to tap it home.

Thuram forces Ramos into an error and it almost falls for Plea in the box but he gives away a foul.

It is as you were, another cross from Rodrygo on the right and he crosses to the back post and Benzema's header at goal isn't his best effort and Sommer can save on the stretch.

It is worth reiterating that despite their calamitous performance so far, if it stays goalless at the San Siro the Foals will still go through to the second stage.

We're back underway and Monchengladbach have made two subs with Wendt and Embolo taken off for Zakaria and Lazaro.

Half Time

A half few could have expected. Real have absolutely dominated Monchengladbach with Benzema's brace the least they deserved.

GOAL DISALLOWED! Modric has the ball in the back of the net with a beautiful half volley but Varane was offside earlier in the move.

Kroos whips in a free kick to the back post that it looked like Benzema was going to head home but it bounced off the back of Wendt and off for a corner.

Mendy who has been almost as productive as Lucas Vazquez on the other flank is fouled on the edge of the box.

Almost a third from Real Madrid. Lucas Vazquez again finds room on the right flank and crosses low to Modric who angled his foot to craft a firm low volley at goal which Sommer pushed onto the post.

It has been a really disappointing display from the German side so far today.

GOAL! Benzema again. And once more it is a header. Modric found Rodrygo in space on the right flank and he beat his man before curling a cross to the back post that the Frenchman powered home.

Real break quickly with Vinicius Jr and Benzema exchanging passes on the left flank but once more the final ball from the Brazilian lets him down.

A great chance for Monchengladbach. A superb ball from Kramer sets up Plea but after outpacing the Real centre defence he clips it over Courtois but wide of the target.

It is all Real Madrid at present, Lucas Vzaquez drifted in off the right flank, played it to Mendy who then fed Benzema on the left and his effort aimed at the far post was deflected over the bar.

Real look dangerous down either flank, Modric weaved inside the right hand side of the box but Wendt blocked his low cross.

If it stays goalless at the San Siro, Monchengladbach will still go through, level on points with Shakhtar but above them courtesy of their 6-0 and 4-0 drubbings of the Ukranian side.

Wonderful run from Vinicius Jr down the left flank throwing a few feints as he got to the by-line but his cut back for Benzema is foiled.

The Foals immediately look to get back level and Thuram turns inside the box and shoots but it is straight at Courtois who parries away.

GOAL! Benzema nets with a fantastic header. Lucas Vazquez drifts a cross to the back post and having to do all the work Benzema, inbetween the Monchengladbach centre backs, flicked the ball home.

The second ball into the box from the free kick almost drops for Thuram but Courtois eventually gathers the ball safely.

Vinicius Junior chases back and fouls Kramer stifling a counter attack. Showing the endeavour Zidane wants from him.

Kroos plays it wide to Modric who plays a dangerous looking cross towards the six-yard box but Sommer collected comfortably.

Real have dowsed the ground in water, perhaps to stifle the German side's slick passing game.

Monchengladbach get the game underway...

The players are lining up for the Champions League anthem meaning we are moments away from kick off.

A reminder we are not at the legendary Santiago Bernabeu but at their temporary home named after their first world superstar, and for so long their greatest player, Alfredo di Stefano.

Real really favoured by the bookies who have them at around 4/6 to get the result they need to reach the next stage. The draw Monchengladbach need is 10/3 with 5/1 quite a big price for the Germans to win against the inconsistent Spanish giant

Real are boosted by the return of leader Sergio Ramos to the side, he replaces Nacho Fernandes who played in the 2-0 defeat to Shakhtar. Also Casemiro and Vinicius Junior come in for Martin Oedegaard and Marco Asensio.

Two changes for the Foals from the side that lost 3-2 at home to Inter in the last round of matches. Nico Elvedi and Breel Embolo come in for Tony Janchtske and Valentino Lazaro.

This was the dramatic end the last time these two sides met.

With Monchengladbach on 8 points, Shakhtar and Real on 7 and Inter on 5 any side from the group can qualify with a win and all can miss out. This can't have happened on many occasions.

It is certain to be a tense end to Group B tonight. A win for either side will guarantee them a spot in the next round, though Monchengladbach only need a draw.

And this is the German outfit's starting xi...

This is how Real will be lining up...
