KICK OFF! Leipzig get this second leg up and running.
Leipzig know the first goal tonight could really set Liverpool’s nerves jangling. The German outfit are hoping to make the Champions League quarter-finals for the second season on the spin after getting to the semis last term. Nagelsmann's men are second in the Bundesliga, two points off leaders Bayern Munich, having won each of their past six league matches. Indeed, they have clocked up eight wins from their last nine outings, with the first-leg loss to the Merseysiders the only blot on their copy book.
Eurosport's expert, Paul Parker has offered his view on Liverpool's recent woes.
STAT: Only four of Leipzig's 12 victories in the Champions League have been by more than one goal (33 per cent). However, the last time they triumphed by more than two goals in the knockout stages of the competition was versus another English team in the shape of Tottenham last term (3-0 in the round of 16 second leg).
A few more words from Wijnaldum’s pre-mach presser. The Holland international offers his view on whether it’s CL or bust for Liverpool’s season: “I think a lot of people only say it is rescued if you win the Champions League and everyone knows how difficult it is. But I think everyone who is in the Champions League has a chance to win it. In the beginning of the season we already wanted to play for everything what we could win and the Champions League was one of them and I don’t think that changed. So what we are going to do is give it our best and try to win it.”
Opinion piece penned yesterday looking at Klopp's links to the Germany job and why he won't be tempted with his Liverpool legacy very much in mind.
Tyler Adams: "Obviously, playing Liverpool is always tough and we respect them but we also need teams to respect us. We are going out there to give our all and get a result. The plan really is just to keep focusing game by game. That is what has kept us humble and successful."
Gini Wijnaldum on his future: "At the moment, there is no news as it is right now. I would lie if I come with news. The only thing that I can say is that I’m really happy at the club - I’m really happy with the team, the staff, and really happy with the fans for who I play."
Julian Nagelsmann: “I feel for Liverpool and Jurgen especially when you are used to being successful and everything which comes into it with the emotions, the title, and then there is a period that is hard to come through but the players and coach are too good and they will get out of it. This is a difficult phase for the team but they are still a world-class team, it is one of the top world-class coaches."
Klopp: "I am happy to have this opportunity. We have momentum in the Champions League. They (Leipzig) have a different momentum as they won the last four, but previous results don't impact this game."
