Full-time: It ends Barcelona 0-0 Benfica - but dear knows how! Group E won't be decided until matchday six when Barcelona will need to win in Bayern Munich to guarantee their progression! It's advantage Benfica, who host Dynamo Kyiv.
- Yellow cardAdel TaarabtBenfica
Barcelona win a corner... they can't win this now... can they? No, Benfica clear. There's still time for Taarabt to be shown a yellow card!
Miss!!! How have Benfica not won this game?! An unbelievable miss here from Seferovic! With the goal gaping, he inexplicably misses the target! Jorge Jesus is on the ground holding his head!
- Yellow cardOdisseas VlachodimosBenfica
Vlachodimos goes into the book for time wasting.
Miss! Depay delivers the corner... Pique has a great chance to win the game for Barcelona but fails to find the target with a header from point-blank range! Ought to do better! It fell to the wrong man!
Otamendi has been a rock in Benfica's defence tonight and he makes another superb challenge to put an end to Dembele's run. But Barcelona have a corner!
There will be FOUR minutes of added-time!
Benfica certainly haven't given up on the win - but they just can't get out of their half at the moment.
- OffClément LengletFC Barcelona
- OnSergiño DestFC Barcelona
Dest replaces Lenglet. It's now or never.
- OffRonald AraújoFC Barcelona
- OnEric GarcíaFC Barcelona
Araujo hobbles off and is replaced by Eric Garcia.
Goal ruled out! What a delivery from Alba to pick out Araujo at the far post and he makes no mistake with his finish to send the home supporters wild! But their celebrations are cut short - he's a fraction offside! And to make matters worse, Araujo has either pulled a muscle or is suffering from cramp!
- OffÁlex GrimaldoBenfica
- OnHaris SeferovicBenfica
But it appears Benfica aren't settling for just a point - on comes Haris Seferovic who replaces Grimaldo. A bold switch from Jorge Jesus!
Remember, with a draw, Barcelona would remain second and two points above Benfica going into the last game. That would mean Blaugrana would either have to win in Bayern Munich or hope that Benfica fail to beat Dynamo Kyiv at home to progress to the last 16.
Dembele tries to thread the eye of the needle to pick out De Jong but Vlachodimos is off his line quickly to smother.
It's just not happening for Barcelona at the moment as Gavi is nudged off the ball. They have around 15 minutes to find a much-needed winner.
Barcelona are committing more players forwards in search of the winner and of course that is almost a risk, as here come Benfica on the counter. However, Nunez shows too much of the ball to Araujo, who steals the ball back for the hosts.
- OffRafa SilvaBenfica
- OnValentino LazaroBenfica
Valentino Lazaro is on for Silva.
Benfica make another change - Pizzi comes on for Everton.
De Jong... no! Dembele makes an immediate impact! With lightning pace, he creates the space for a cross and puts it right on the head of De Jong. But his bullet header from point-blank range is tipped over by Vlachodimos!
- OffYusuf DemirFC Barcelona
- OnOusmane DembéléFC Barcelona
It's time for Barcelona to gamble. On comes Ousmane Dembele for Demir.
Wide! Taarabt crashes into the back of Demir but the referee allows play to continue - and here come Benfica on the counter! The run of Nunez is fed but he's forced wide and can only slide a shot off target.
Pique has a hold of Nunez's shirt but can't stop him powering through. He pulls back a cross but fails to pick out a team mate.
Of course, this scoreline is much more appealing to Benfica than it is Barcelona.
Benfica are defending strongly, making the pitch compact and not giving Barcelona an inch. Xavi won't be happy with how his side have played since the restart.
- OffRoman YaremchukBenfica
- OnDarwin NúñezBenfica
Yaremchuk makes way for Darwin Nunez, who Barcelona know all too well after his devastating performance in the reverse fixture.
- OffJoão MárioBenfica
- OnAdel TaarabtBenfica
Adel Taarabt, formerly of Tottenham and QPR, comes on for Joao Mario. In a game so tense, he has a lot of pressure on his shoulders to help protect Benfica's defence.
Chance! In a blink of an eye, Depay races in behind the Benfica defence, checks back looking to unload on his right foot, but Otamendi tracks his run and makes a vital, last-ditch tackle! The hosts have to settle for a corner.
It's a poor turnout considering the magnitude of this game.
Alba raises his hands ever so slightly and Gilberto throws himself to the ground theatrically. The referee isn't fooled.
A clever pass from Alba releases Gavi and he floats a teasing cross to the far post. However, he was in an offside position when he touched the ball.
Dembele and Courtino are warming up for Barcelona.
- Yellow cardJoão MárioBenfica
Joao Mario felt the referee wasn't going to give Pique the yellow card and is booked for his protestations.
- Yellow cardGerard PiquéFC Barcelona
Pique pulls the shirt of Yaremchuk and goes into the referee's book.
Otamendi makes an important block on Depay's shot in Barcelona's first sign of intent after the restart.
Kick-off! Barcelona get the second half underway - there are no changes in personnel.
- End of 1st Half
Half-time: There is nothing added on at the end of the first half and Benfica will be the happier with the scores locked at 0-0 at Camp Nou.
Off the crossbar! Oh, how has this not gone in?! Demir looks to have broken the deadlock with a delicious curler from the right side of the penalty area. With the goalkeeper beaten, it looks for all the world it's creeping in at the far post... but no, it crashes off the woodwork and bounces to safety.
Five minutes to play in a tense first half at Camp Nou.
Barcelona have had a couple of let-offs now. And I've just had a look at the replay of Otamendi's goal and it's really difficult to see if the ball had actually gone out of play before the defender smashed home. You can have a look for yourself in the still below.
- Yellow cardÁlex GrimaldoBenfica
Grimaldo has picked up a booking for a foul on Demir.
Goal ruled out! Benfica have the ball in the back of the net - but it's not going to count! Otamendi thrashes it home from the edge of the box, but the ball had strayed out of play a moment earlier!
Benfica should score! Set-pieces probably represent Benfica's best chance of breaching Barcelona's tonight and now they have a corner. Everton delivers... Yaremchuk attacks it with a stooped header and Ter Stegen keeps it out with his leg!
Grimaldo whips in a free-kick delivery, Yaremchuk is picked out in space but the Ukrainian fails to keep his shot down from point-blank range! His blushes are spared as the offside flag is then raised.
Gilberto drives down Benfica's right and unselfishly looks to feed the run of Yaremchuk. However the pass is poor and Barcelona recover possession.
Alba is played in behind once more but this time the offside flag comes to Benfica's rescue.
Save! Vlachodimos is forced into another save as Barcelona spring another attack on the break with Alba played down the left. He can only sting the hands of the visiting goalkeeper though.
Over! Nice build-up play from Barca - but again the final touch isn't what it should be! Gonzalez dinks it through to Gavi who can't keep his shot down!
Benfica win their first corner of the night. It's played short before Everton eventually delivers but the Barca defence head clear.
Gilberto concedes a free-kick for a foul on Alba, who delivers the resulting set-piece. He's searching for runners at the far post but it's much too close to the visiting goalkeeper.
Yaremchuk has another sight of goal but Pique gets across quickly to make a sliding challenge.
Depay gets in behind Benfica's defence, rounds Vlachodimos and tries to square it to Demir. The visitors get enough bodies back to make the interception and then the offside flag goes up.
Shoot on sight is the instruction tonight thanks to the wet conditions. This time Depay fires over from distance.
Chance! Barca press and win the ball in midfield, soon finding themselves in a three-on-three counter-attack. It's spread wide to Araujo but under pressure from Vertonghen he can only slice his effort wide!
Close! Demir, Barcelona's 18-year-old Austrian forward, is searching for the far post with a curling effort. Vlachodimos has to be at full stretch on the wet surface to push it behind for a corner!
Barcelona try to play out from the back but Ter Stegen misplaces his pass. Yaremchuk has the opportunity to make the goalkeeper pay for his carelessness but fails to get anything behind his shot and it's straight at the home shot-stopper.
Barca have made a bright start to proceedings, full of short, sharp passing.
- 1st Half
Kick-off! Benfica, in all white, get us underway at a wet Nou Camp!
The rain is coming down heavy in Barcelona, which might disrupt the home side's free-flowing football. We're just five minutes away from kick-off now. The players are about to emerge and are ready for that famous anthem.
Earlier tonight in Group E, leaders Bayern Munich beat Dinamo Kyiv 2-1 to keep up their 100% record in the Champions League.
Second-placed Barcelona start the game two points ahead of Benfica, knowing they must win one of their two games to progress to the last 16. The Portuguese giants will be confident after winning the reverse fixture 3-0 and they certainly know where the net is, scoring 20 goals in their last five games. Tonight is going to be an early test for Xavi.
Are Barca playing a back four or three? That's not immediately clear from Xavi's starting line-up, but here's what the boss told Barca TV: "With this XI, we'll be able to switch between different formations during the match. Today I've brought in two bigger, stronger centre-halves but each of them know how to play out from the back. I'll ask the wingers to play very wide and 'open' – we want to dominate possession and be the protagonists in the match."
LAST TIME OUT: Barcelona 1-0 Espanyol. While they were blunter in front of goal than Xavi would have liked, wrote Graham Ruthven, there was plenty in Barcelona's performance to suggest that the former midfielder has made an instant impact at the Camp Nou.
Xavi was in confident mood in his pre-match press conference.
The biggest surprise in Benfica's XI is the exclusion of forward Darwin Nunez, who was awesome when the sides met in the reverse fixture. He's dropped to the bench and in his place steps in Roman Yaremchuk.
If Barcelona were to draw tonight, they would have to beat Bayern Munich at the Allianz - or hope Benfica fail to beat Dinamo Kyiv at home on matchday six.
Xavi makes three changes to the Barcelona side that defeated rivals Espanyol 1-0 on Saturday as Ronald Araujo and Clement Lenglet come into the defence and Yusuf Demir joins Memphis Depay and Gavi in attack. Sergino Dest is fit enough only for the bench.
TEAMS - Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen, Araujo, Pique, Lenglet, Alba, F de Jong, Busquets, Gonzalez, Demir, Gavi, Depay.. subs: Neto, Pena, Dest, Puig, Dembele, Coutinho, L de Jong, Mingueza, Umtiti, Garcia, Balde /// Benfica XI: Vlachodimos, Vertonghen, Otamendi, Alemida, Grimaldo, Joao Mario, Weigl, Gilberto, Everton, Rafa Silva, Yaremchuk.. subs: Svilar, Leite, Nunez, Meite, Seferovic, Pizzi, Lazaro, Taarabt, Fernandes, Ramos, Morato, Ferro.
