Chris Mepham thanks Brentford team-mates after Wales call-up

Chris Mepham has praised the staff and his Brentford team-mates for helping him win his first international call-up.

The defender was named in Ryan Giggs’ first squad since taking over from Chris Coleman as Wales manager for the forthcoming China Cup tournament featuring Uruguay, Czech Republic and hosts China.

Mepham told the club’s official website that it was his goal to get in the Wales squad this season.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” he said. “It was my aim at the start of the year to gain some international recognition so for it to have come so soon is a credit to the staff and players here who have pushed me to that point.

“It’ll be a great experience to go out to China.”
