Barcelona hammered Sevilla as they overturned a first leg deficit to win 6-1 (6-3 on aggregate) and make the semi finals of the Copa del Rey.
The four-time defending champions came into the match with work to do having been convincingly beaten 2-0 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan the week before, but they turned in a highly impressive performance on what was a momentous night at Camp Nou.
It took Barcelona just 13 minutes to open the scoring, with Philippe Coutinho converting a penalty kick following a contentious refereeing decision. Sevilla then spurned the opportunity to score from the spot themselves as Ever Banega saw his penalty saved by Jasper Cillessen.

Barca doubled their advantage not long after when Arthur threaded through Ivan Rakitic for a somewhat fortunate finish past Juan Soriano, who was deceived by the flicked shot from the Croatian.
Coutinho scored his second, and Barca’s third, in the second half, with Sergi Roberto scoring a fourth. Guilherme Arana gave Sevilla a lifeline, but Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi scored two late goals to put the finishing touches on the win for the home side.
The holders now join Real Betis and Valencia in the semi finals of the competition, with Girona and Real Madrid playing for the final place on Thursday.

TALKING POINT - Lionel Messi makes all the difference for Barcelona

Last week, Barcelona slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Sevilla could have scored more than just the two goals they finished on. However, Messi was missing for that match. Tonight, he was back and that made all the difference for Barca. Of course, it’s natural that Barcelona are better with a player of Messi’s quality involved, but they are a completely different side with him on the pitch. This Copa del Rey quarter final demonstrated that.

MAN OF THE MATCH - Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona)

This is a player who has been struggling for form of late. However, Coutinho turned in a display here that reminded us all of his brilliance. Messi handed over a penalty kick to the Brazilian as a way to boost his confidence and after that Coutinho was magnificent in flight. He finished with a brace and could (perhaps should) have netted a hat trick. Coutinho played his role in what was a momentous night for Barcelona.
