Hertha awarded victory

The German FA (DFB) has declared Hertha Berlin 2-0 winners over Stuttgarter Kickers, after their German Cup tie was suspended due to a linesman being hit in the back by a filled plastic beer glass thrown by home fans.

Solomon Okoronkwo and Yildiray Basturk had put Hertha 2-0 up, before referee Michael Weiner stopped the match in the 86th minute as his assistant, Kai Voss, went down holding his back and was taken to the dressing room for further treatment.

Both clubs have now been asked by the DFB to write to them with their perspective on the incident, while Stuttgarter Kickers have also been asked to give their view on the special report supplied by referee Weiner to the DFB.

The culprit has since been identified, and police are currently preparing charges against a 38-year-old man from Stuttgart.
