Borussia Dortmund scored an early psychological blow ahead of the forthcoming Bundesliga season by beating bitter rivals Bayern Munich 2-0 in the curtain-raising German Super Cup.
Bayern had beaten Dortmund in both the league and cup last season and also bossed the early exchanges.
But once Henrik Mkhitaryan put the home side ahead with his fierce drive, it was all Dortmund - the excellent Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang capped a fine performance with the winning headed goal in the second half and he whipped out a Spiderman mask in celebration.
Despite notable absentees in the form of new Dortmund captain Mats Hummels and Marco Reus, there was an abundance of talent and World Cup winning stars on show with silverware at stake.
But even with the likes of Manuel Neuer, Thomas Mueller, Philipp Lahm, Mario Goetze and Robert Lewandowski, facing his former club, in their ranks, Bayern looked well off the pace and Dortmund were good value for the win.
What's more, Bayern's holding midfielder Javi Martinez suffered a suspected cruciate ligament injury in the first half and could face a long spell on the sidelines.

KEY MOMENTS
2’ – CHANCE BAYERN: Shaqiri wriggles into the box and shoots on goal. The angle is narrow and it’s a fairly comfortable block for Langerak.
16’ – NEAR CALAMITY FOR MARTINEZ: It’s a woeful back pass that Neuer just about scrambles across to and clears off the line.
17’ – NEUER SAVE: He parries away a powerful drive from Kirch.
23’ – GOAL DORTMUND: Mkhitaryan smashes the ball home past Neuer after it runs nicely into his path off the back of Aubameyang’s heels.
40’ – NEUER SAVE: Kehl blasts straight at the keeper.
43’ – NEUER DOUBLE SAVE: He’s again called into action, saving first from Hofmann and Kehl again.
46’ – GOOD SAVE LANGERAK: It’s a rare Bayern chance but the Dortmund keeper is out well to smother from Lewandowski.
62' – GOAL DORTMUND: It’s a well worked second as Aubameyang leaps to head home Piszczek’s cross before the customary Spiderman celebrations.
80’ - GOOD SAVE LANGERAK: More good work from the Dortmund keeper who palms away Alaba’s free kick.
90+1’ – NEUER DENIES MKHITARYAN: He’s out well to deny Dortmund making it three in the final seconds.
TALKING POINT: World Cup weariness for Bayern stars? It was a puzzling performance from Pep Guardiola’s men, who looked a shadow of the side who dominated the last domestic season. But Dortmund were also missing notable stars and looked comfortably the better side.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund): Terrified the Bayern defence with his electric pace and capped a fine performance with a deserved goal.
