"UEFA today studied video evidence in the wake of allegations that Giggs had elbowed a Russian opponent. The case will be heard by UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body on December 4," the European governing body said on Tuesday.
Russia wanted Giggs suspended for Wednesday's match at the Millennium Stadium, claiming he elbowed defender Vadim Yevseyev in the face and had only escaped punishment because Portuguese referee Lucilio Batista did not see the off-the-ball incident.
However, under UEFA rules a player charged must be able to state his case in writing and since there is not enough time for a decision to be taken before Wednesday's match Giggs, who is struggling to shake off a shin injury, is eligible to play. The Football Union of Russia will also face charges at the December hearing related to the setting off of fireworks and throwing of missiles by spectators at Saturday's game.
