Ibrahimovic has refused to play for his country since September, when he and two of his teammates were sent home last year after they failed to report in time at the hotel after a night out.
"Zlatan is doing the right thing," Brolin said. "If he doesn't feel like playing in the national team, then he shouldn't.
"You can't try and convince someone who doesn't want to play. Only Zlatan can decide when it's time to come back.
"Either he wants to come back or he doesn't. Maybe he just wants to spend some time with his family instead.
"We shouldn't focus too much on Zlatan in this situation, but think about the actual qualifications. I feel sorry for the other boys, because everybody is talking about Zlatan."
The friendly, which marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the African Football Confederation, is the last match for Sweden before a Euro 2008 qualifier against Northern Ireland in March.
