There is a surprise on the cards for England against Germany as Gareth Southgate is reportedly considering a recall for Chelsea pair Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell, despite their period of self-isolation. Manchester City's midfielder Phil Foden could also come back into the side after sitting out the game against the Czech Republic.
Gareth Southgate may recall Phil Foden to the England starting line-up for the game against Germany, with Mason Mount also under consideration.
Foden was not part of England’s squad against the Czech Republic as Bukayo Saka was given a chance on the wing alongside a start for Jack Grealish.
However Southgate had explained that Foden was a booking away from a suspension so was left out of the game as a precaution. Sky Sports believes that he will be brought into the eleven for Tuesday’s last-16 tie.
As well as Foden there could be a chance that Mount and his Chelsea teammate Ben Chilwell could also be involved in the match, despite being in isolation.
The pair spoke with Chelsea colleague Billy Gilmour after England’s game with Scotland, and when Gilmour returned a positive Covid-19 result it was decided that the England duo would have to isolate, meaning they missed group training.
Given the lack of involvement with the team it was believed that neither of them could be considered for the Germany game, but they have both taken part in tactical meetings with the rest of the squad over video link, and that could give Southgate the confidence to include them.
