The English FA say that they are hopeful they can reach an agreement with Manchester City, that will allow Stuart Pearce become England U21 boss.
Pearce said on Sunday that he had accepted the job, forcing Manchester City to issue a statement saying that no agreement on Pearce's release had yet been agreed.
The former England international wants to take the country's U21s to next summer's European Championships, but City and the FA seem to be at odds as to then extent of Pearce's involvement in the build-up games.
The U21's are due to take on Spain in a friendly on February 6, and then another game against as-yet unnamed opponents in March.
The FA want Pearce in charge for both games, but City are worried it will effect his club duties.
A statement on the FA website however, says that talks are still ongoing.
"The FA will continue to speaking with Manchester City over the next few days with regard to reaching an appropriate agreement with Stuart Pearce to manage England's Under-21 team," it said.
"Until these conversations have taken place and an agreement is reached with Manchester City FC we are unable to make any further comment," it added.
