After being held to a 1-1 draw on home soil last Saturday, France started brightly and went close to nicking the lead through Rennes striker Jimmy Briand (pictured).

Yet Israel weathered the storm and made sure of a momentous victory when Amir Taga turned in a rebound in stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Belgium qualified for the finals with an emphatic 4-1 win in Bulgaria.
