The English-born player, 20, is eligible to play for Turkey through his mother, who is Turkish-Cypriot and spoke of making a "footballing" decision.
"It was my dream to play for both England and Turkey but you can't do that," he said. "When I started at Biry I said I did want to play for Turkey at one time, the simple fact being that you look at England and you ask yourself 'are you going to play consistently in internationals?' I have seen some players play a game and not feature again and then they can't play for anyone else.
"I don't really want to do that so I made a footballing decision and hopefully that will pay off."
Kazim-Richards was born in East London to an Antiguan father and Turkish-Cypriot mother and admits he discussed the decision at length with both of his parents before accepting the call.
"They called me on Monday to ask me," he admitted. "They didn't want to send (the call-up) and me say I was not going there&hellip I was on the phone to my dad for about an hour and to my mum as well. In the long run it will be good to play for Turkey."
Kazim-Richards started his career at Bury before moving to Brighton, where he only stayed a year before moving to Blades. He has scored one Premiership goal in 19 appearances, often appearing from the bench or as a wide man.
